How to Use These 4th Of July Coloring Pages

  1. Count the stripes on the flag (13) and talk about what they stand for.
  2. Use only red, white and blue – a fun color challenge.
  3. Add glitter glue to the fireworks after coloring.
  4. Color the bubble letters in a red-white-blue pattern.

Learning Benefits

Coloring the flag is a hands-on way to learn its parts: 13 stripes for the original colonies and stars for the states. The fireworks page is great for practising red, white and blue color patterns and for keeping kids busy at a long barbecue.

Age Range

Ages 3-10. Simple flag and star shapes for little ones; fireworks with fine lines for older kids.

Variations and Extension Ideas

  • Set the pages out on the picnic table at your 4th of July party.
  • Cut out the big star and make a wand with a straw.
  • Make a paper flag garland from several colored flags.
  • Hang the Happy 4th of July page on the front door.

Printing Tips

  • Print on US Letter or A4 with "Fit to page" so the border is not cut off.
  • For markers or paint, use 24lb paper or light cardstock so colors do not bleed through.
  • Choose black & white / grayscale in the print dialog – the pages are pure line art and use very little ink.
  • Use red and blue crayons rather than markers on thin paper – markers can bleed on the flag stripes.
