Free Heart Coloring Pages (Printable PDF)
Four free heart coloring pages for any day of the year: a big heart, a heart pattern sheet, a heart with wings and a bunch of heart balloons.
What’s Included
Here’s what each of the 4 pages covers:
- Big Heart presents big heart in a cheerful scene that invites storytelling: ask kids what is happening and what might happen next.
- Hearts Pattern features hearts pattern drawn with thick, clean outlines and large spaces, so even small hands can color it without frustration.
- Heart with Wings shows heart with wings with a few simple background details that kids can color as they are or extend with their own drawings.
- Heart Balloons is a friendly picture of heart balloons; the main shape fills most of the page, which makes it a good choice for younger colorists.

How to Use These Heart Coloring Pages
- Start with the Big Heart for the youngest kids.
- Color the pattern page with an ABAB color pattern.
- Give the heart with wings bright feather colors.
- Write a kind word inside each balloon heart.
Learning Benefits
Hearts are one of the first shapes young children learn to draw. Coloring big hearts builds confidence, while the pattern page lets older kids practice repeating colors. Hearts also open up easy conversations about kindness, family and feelings.
Make It Last Longer
- Cut out hearts and make a kindness garland.
- Use the big heart as a Valentine card cover.
- Paint the hearts with watercolor and salt.
- Glue torn tissue paper inside the big heart.
Age Guide and Skills Practised
Behind the fun, these pages train hand strength, grip and attention. Expect very different results by age: free scribbles from toddlers, careful outlines from preschoolers, and detailed backgrounds from school-age kids.
Because the theme is kindness, friendship and the people kids care about, the pages are also a natural starting point for conversations that build vocabulary. Useful words to introduce while working include heart, friend, kind, share, card, love, hug, care.
Ages 2-12. One giant heart for toddlers up to pattern pages for older kids.
Quick-Start Guide
- Print the page and lay out a small selection of crayons or pencils – too many choices can overwhelm young children.
- Look at the picture together and name everything you can see.
- Let your child choose a starting color for the biggest shape first.
- Encourage slow, steady strokes in one direction for neater coverage.
- Finish by adding a background, a title or the child’s name, then display it.
3 Ideas to Extend the Learning
These follow-up activities need little or no preparation:
- Use the hearts in the designs for a quick pattern lesson – red, pink, red, pink – and have kids continue the pattern in the margin.
- Read a picture book about friendship, then ask kids to color a page for the friend in the story and explain their choice.
- Turn finished pages into a February bulletin board titled ‘Our Hearts Are Full’, adding one sentence from each child about being kind.
Using These Heart Coloring Pages at Home and in the Classroom
At home
Let kids sign and date each finished page; it turns a simple sheet into something they are proud to give or display. Keep a few pages in a quiet-time basket with crayons so they are ready for rainy afternoons, waiting for dinner or winding down before bed. Color alongside your child rather than just supervising – talking about color choices (‘Why did you pick purple?’) builds vocabulary and confidence.
For teachers
Ask students to color the same page in different ways and compare – a natural way to talk about choices and creativity. Use the pages for early finishers, indoor recess or a calm transition after lunch or PE. Put a page at a center with a short writing prompt underneath, such as ‘This is a ___. It can ___.’, to mix art and literacy.
If Your Child Gets Stuck
Let little ones start with the largest shapes on the heart pages. Thick crayons and a page taped to the table help more than any instruction.
Print and Reuse
- Print on US Letter or A4 with "Fit to page" so the border is not cut off.
- For markers or paint, use 24lb paper or light cardstock so colors do not bleed through.
- Choose black & white / grayscale in the print dialog – the pages are pure line art and use very little ink.
- Pink or red cardstock makes the outlines look extra festive.
Extra tips: Crayons and colored pencils work on regular 20lb printer paper; markers, watercolor or paint need 65lb cardstock or heavier. Choose ‘Fit to page’ or ‘Scale to fit’ if your printer cuts off the border, and select black & white or grayscale to save color ink. If you want to reuse a page, slip it into a sheet protector and use dry-erase crayons.

What ages are these coloring pages for?
Ages 3-8 is the sweet spot. The bold outlines are easy for small hands, and there is room for older kids to add patterns.
