How to Use These Sun Coloring Pages
- Use warm colors – yellow, orange and red – for the sun.
- Talk about sun safety while coloring the Cool Sun page.
- Color the clouds gray or blue to compare a sunny and cloudy sky.
- Add your own flowers to the Sunny Day page.
Learning Benefits
The sun is one of the first things toddlers learn to draw. These pages are great for early weather lessons (sunny vs. cloudy), for teaching warm colors (yellow, orange, red) and for talking about sun safety: hats, shade and sunscreen.
Age Range
Ages 2-7. Big, round smiling suns – some of our simplest pages.
Variations and Extension Ideas
- Make a weather chart: hang the Sun & Clouds page and move a clothespin each day.
- Paint the sun with yellow and orange paint and finger dots.
- Glue tissue paper on the sun rays for a sun-catcher look.
- Use the pages for a summer solstice or first-day-of-summer activity.
Printing Tips
- Print on US Letter or A4 with "Fit to page" so the border is not cut off.
- For markers or paint, use 24lb paper or light cardstock so colors do not bleed through.
- Choose black & white / grayscale in the print dialog – the pages are pure line art and use very little ink.
- For a sun-catcher, print on thin paper, color brightly and rub a little cooking oil on the back so light shines through (adults only).
