How to Use These Pattern Worksheets

  1. Say the pattern out loud: circle, square, circle, square…
  2. Draw the next three shapes in the empty boxes.
  3. On the number page, find the rule (add 2, add 5…).
  4. Create your own patterns on the last page.

Learning Benefits

Patterns are the beginning of algebraic thinking. Kids learn to spot what repeats, predict what comes next and describe a rule. The pages move from simple AB shape patterns to skip-counting number patterns.

Age Range

Ages 4-7 (pre-K to 1st grade).

Variations and Extension Ideas

  • Make patterns with beads, blocks or snacks.
  • Clap and stomp patterns: clap, clap, stomp.
  • Find patterns on clothes and wallpaper.
  • Use the number patterns as skip-counting practice.

Printing Tips

  • Print at 100% (Actual size) so the boxes and lines stay the right size for small handwriting.
  • Slip a page into a sheet protector and use a dry-erase marker to reuse it all week.
  • Print the answer key separately and keep it in a folder for quick checking.
  • Print the Make Your Own page twice – kids love making patterns for each other to solve.
